--Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance visited the Süleymaniye Library in Istanbul, Turkey, yesterday.
Sayyed Mohammad Hosseini is in Istanbul to attend the inauguration of programs celebrating the city’s selection as the cultural capital of Europe in 2010.
Established in 1927 within the madrasahs of the Suleymaniye Mosque, the Suleymaniye Library is one of the biggest and most important libraries in Turkey and the Islamic world, in which there are over 74,000 manuscripts and printed books.
The culture minister met with the manager of the library during the visit.
Mr. Hosseini also visited Iranian’s Husseinia (religious center) as well as an exhibition titled “10 Thousand Years of Iran’s Culture and Civilization- 2 Thousand Years of Common Heritage” which is currently being held in Topkapi Museum.
