-- With the help of Lebanese general office of Islamic Awqaf, the Al-Rahman Mosque opened on February 19, during a special ceremony held in Beirut with the presence of the Lebanese prime minister.
According to IQNA’s branch in Lebanon, Sa’d Al-Hariri, the prime minister and Sheikh Mohammad Rashid Ghabani, Lebanese mufti, as well as a number of religious, political and cultural figures attended the ceremony.
Speaking in the opening ceremony, Sheikh Ghabani said: “The first thing Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) did after his emigration from Mecca to Medina was constructing a mosque in order for people to gain knowledge, say prayers and worship God.
Stressing the importance of mosques in Islam, he quoted the Quran, Sura Al-Tawba, Verse 108: “Never stand (to pray) there. A place of worship which was found upon duty (to Allah) from the first day is more worthy that thou shouldst stand (to pray) therein, wherein are men who love to purify themselves. Allah loveth the purifiers. ”
“In Islam, mosques are places for prostrating before God. It is where Muslims say their prayers, learn about their worldly affairs, strengthen their brotherly alliance and cooperate in doing virtuous deeds,” he added.
