International Quran Competition for Muslim Students with Participation of Women

Women\'s participation in the International Quran Competition for Muslim Students and introducing new categories, such as Quranic concepts, Adhan (call to prayer), and Tawasheeh, into the competition would promote the level of competitions.

This is according to Muntahaa Ebrahim Kenny, chairman of the South African Quran Union, who praised Iranian leaders’ efforts for taking careful note and interest towards establishing local and international Quranic activities.

Referring to the national and international Quranic activities in Iran, he said, “The seriousness and importance that are shown by the Iranian leadership translate into what we are witnessing today- a model society that are focused on living and abiding to the Glorious Book.

This is (as mentioned in one of the talks by His Excellency, Ayatollah Khamanei) the cornerstone and success of the revolution.

The Islamic Republic of Iran and its people are therefore taking a leading role in establishing the Truth from this Book, whilst the world is encompassed by evil and darkness.”

He also regarded the 3rd International Quran Competition for Muslim Students as an important stepping-stone in unifying the global Muslim nation around the Holy Quran.

“Hosting representatives from different countries, the Iranian nation provides an opportunity for the Quranic community from various ethnic, race, and geographical backgrounds to meet and communicate with each other.”

Muntahaa Ebrahim Kenny stressed, saying that despite the differences, the participants have one major binding element that is adherence to one (and only one) Divine Word from God.

“The Iranian nation, given its track record, has successfully helped in enhancing and raising the standard of Quran recitation and memorization in the world,” he underlined.

Chairman of the South African Quran Union urged Iran’s Quranic officials to assist other countries in holding national Quran competitions. “It would ensure a uniformity in judging and selecting of participants that the best reciters of each represented country will participate in the international Quranic events.”

He recommended holding a workshop for Quran reciters and memorizers prior to the competition, whereby the participants are trained the requirements regarding the areas of judgement (Tajweed, Saut, Waghf/ Ibtidaa, and Lahn) and given exercises and tutorials.

Referring to the success of such workshop sessions held in Malaysia’s international competition for the participants of non-Islamic countries he added, “This will not only result in having a better standards at the competition itself, but the reciters and memorizers will be able to take this knowledge and impart it to their countrymen.”

He also proposed giving a personal evaluation of each reciter or memorizer after his turn of participation. “It will be helpful in enhancing the participants\' capabilities and confidence and is sure to satisfy the objective of raising the standards of Quran recitation and memorization.”

The 3rd International Quran Competition for University Students is to be held from January 9-11 in the holy city of Mashhad. Representatives of over 40 countries will be attending the competition.
