It was through Imam Hussein’s (AS) self-sacrifice and martyrdom that the message of truth-seeking of his movement was recorded in history forever.
This is according to Ahmed Dilalu, Malian journalist and head of the Shia Students Society of Mali, Arfica.
He said Imam Hussein (AS) welcomed martyrdom because he knew that it was through martyrdom that true Islam and the Seerah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would be upheld.
“The continuation of the Shia school of thought, as the only true path for reaching God, was the outcome of the Karbala uprising and the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS). Had that event not taken place, no Muslim would have the courage today to stand up against injustice and oppression and oppose those who distort Islamic injunctions.”
He stressed that the day of Ashura is a blessing for all free-thinking and justice-seeking people of the world.
“The martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) helped Muslims distinguish between the true Islam and the Umawi Islam,” Dilalu said, adding that the justice-seeking people of the world who take Imam Hussein (AS) as example would never bow down to oppression and injustice.
He said the Bani Umayyah (dynasty) sought to eliminate the true Islam and establish their rule based on race, ethnicity and language. “They committed countless injustices in the name of Islam to achieve their objectives. But Imam Hussein (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) could not remain silent and see the distortion and elimination of the true Islam. So, he rose up (against Yazid) with the aim of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice and reintroduction of true Islam.”
He said that Imam Hussein (AS) wrote his message with his blood and did not succumb to injustice.
Head of the Shia Students Society of Mali went on to say that Imam Hussein (AS) was aware that the path he had chosen would end in martyrdom but he never turned back because the only way for upholding true Islam and rectifying the culture of Muslims was through martyrdom.
